Sandwich Board Beautification Instructions
Thank you for choosing to beautify your HAS Sandwich Board. Here are some instructions & helpful hints for decorating your board.
You've received HALF a Sandwich Board. There is a Top and a Bottom – the bottom has a slight scoop cut out, whereas the top edge is straight across. PLEASE keep this in mind when you begin your design! A section has been taped off – this indicates where a removeable sign will be placed. Although you may choose to do so, you do not need to paint in this area as it will be covered. The taped-off section is in the TOP portion.
Your board may have a hinge attached along the top, and/or it may have a hinged arm on the back which you may tape down for ease of handling. Your board may have a support board with an eye screw on the back – this support is on the bottom end.
Now that we know which end is UP, let's talk about what paints to use. Please keep in mind these signs will be used outdoors and must withstand rain, snow, wind and repeated handling. And please remember to paint the top, bottom and side edges!
Best results will be obtained with Artists' Acrylics. Please do not thin your acrylics with water – use a polymer medium to ensure paint adhesion.
Other acceptable mediums would be:
Mixed Media Artists - please don't apply Acrylics or Latex on top of enamel / spray paint; enamel on top of acrylic is fine. If you wish to add 3D Embellishments, they must be attached with screws - glue alone is not enough. Remember also they will be stored flat when not in use.
What NOT to use:
Please DO NOT use Craft Paint, Tempera/Poster Paint, Interior Latex house paint, watercolour, marker, wax-based media, natural fibers, or craft-intended products, as all of these will crack, peel and/or fade in time. Due to drying time constraints, please do not use Oil paint.
If you have any questions about the media you've choosen, please feel free to call the girls at
North Art Supplies – 788-0726 or email northart @ cogeco.ca
There is no need to paint the back, it will be varnished later. Final varnish will be supplied.
Thanks for your participation in the Sandwich Board Project!
