The Huntsville Art Society is seeking local & regional, professional artists For the CREATIVATION PILOT PROJECT 2010 A new pilot program offering innovative and challenging programs and activities for elementary and intermediate students (grades 1-8) Artist educators will organize and deliver art activities such as after school programs, workshops, demonstrations, guest speakers, tours, mentoring, and student exhibitions. If you are interested in being an artist educator and would like more information click here Add Comment Huntsville ON, May 7, 2010—Huntsville-area students in grades 1 to 8 will soon have access to a whole lot more art, as the government of Ontario recently awarded $30,000 to the Huntsville Art Society for an ambitious new visual arts pilot project, HAS Creativation: Art, Kids, Community. The money is coming from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture as part of its Cultural Strategic Investment Fund, building a strong and stable cultural sector by funding projects that contribute to the province’s cultural development and achieve economic and creative growth. “Creativation,” which in the Urban Dictionary means “to creatively innovate,” is a range of arts education activities for students in grades 1 to 8 that will run from this June to February of 2011. The programming, which will be available to students at six elementary schools and two homeschool groups in the Huntsville and Lake of Bays area, includes after-school art programs, workshops, demonstrations, speakers, tours, partnerships, mentoring and student exhibitions. Creativation will be managed by HAS and the programming will be delivered by professional artists from the community, who will be paid for their work. In addition, HAS is seeking applicants for a coordinator for the project. “The kind of creativity and innovation that we used to associate only with art has become an integral part of today’s business reality,” said HAS president Col Mitchell. “HAS Creativation supports this new economy by helping students, who are the future workforce, develop their creative skills and thinking, and by building community partnerships.” Mitchell noted that Creativation also supports the Ministry of Education’s visual arts curriculum and complements the Town of Huntsville’s Strategic Plan, which identifies culture and heritage as “distinctive core attractors.” “This investment is about encouraging the Huntsville and Lake of Bays area to tap into its culture sector’s creativity, innovation and leadership to generate new opportunities for economic growth and job creation in the future,” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism and Culture. Creativation is gaining support on the local level as well. Lake of Bays Township has pledged $1,000, and the Economic Development Department of the Town of Huntsville are partners in the program. HAS is also exploring partnership opportunities with a range of other individuals and groups.
